Hold your elected officials accountable
Did you know that hundreds of sewage spills happen every year? The public may hear about a few of them if they make the news, but far more actually occur. Sewage spills must be reported to the Department of Ecology, but the information is not readily available to the public in a searchable map or web site.
You can help change that! Let your legislators know that we want them to pass SB 5450 / HB 1670 swiftly. Ecology stands ready to develop a hub for sewage spill information.

At least 10 other states have already adopted Sewage Spill Right to Know laws and regulations. We think it’s time that Washington joins South Carolina and Massachusetts and ensures that the public has access to timely information on sewage spills across the state.
Sewage spills contain bacteria and other pollution that can harm people who come in contact. The public needs access to information to make decisions that could impact themselves and their families, and this bill would create that portal.
With your help, we will improve timely access to information on sewage spills.
